There are numerous ways to win at TPC Scottsdale; we look at the most successful trends of the past 14 years.
The PGA Tour travels to Arizona this week for one of the most popular tournaments on the circuit. The four-day attendance regularly tops 500,000 (pre-covid) creating a unique atmosphere at the event.
TPC Scottsdale provides the venue for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, an iconic venue for many golf fans. The par-3 16th generates a raucous atmosphere and the modern day amphitheatre can be a daunting arena for golfers not used to cheers or boos after their shots.
Let’s look at the previous 14 winners to see if they offer any clues:
Top-70 for par-5 scoring average
The three par-5s all average around the 550-yard mark and all are reachable in two. 13 of the last 14 winners ranked inside the top-70 for par-5 scoring average.

TPC Scottsdale has always been a ball-striker’s course and Tom Weiskopf’s renovations have furthered their cause. 13 of the last 14 winners ranked inside the top-70 in strokes gained tee-to-green.
